If you could provide more info on "will not boot" error message we might 
be able to help you more.  Also if you can boot into rescue can you 
mount the good drive?  If so all your /etc should be there, if you didnt 
know you should be able to mount /dev/sda6 as a normal ext device.  All 
this is assuming raid1 ..
