You're getting some excellent advice here, and I really think Arno may have 
saved your weekend.

But nevertheless, I advise you to connect a USB external drive and backup the 
data before rebooting, if you can. You only have to be one character wrong to 
foul things up.

I think that if you can save a copy of /proc/partitions - why did I not know 
about this before I made the same mistake myself? - as a text file somewhere 
safe, then you should be certain of success.

But between rewriting the partition table and rebooting, making a backup might 
be safest.
