Hi!

I have a number of Dell R410's with SAS 6/iR controllers running
CentOS 5.5. These controllers are setup with no arrays on them -- we
are using the controllers as simple SAS controllers for a specialized
filesystem application. In this config the controller presents 4
disks to the system as normal disks, omreport doesn't show any vdisks
but does show pdisks (as we would expect). We are able to install an
OS and put it into use for the application with no obvious, immediate
issues.

Is this configuration supported?

I ask because we keep loosing the disk in bay 3 on a number of these
systems and reports to Dell so far indicate that this configuration
isn't supported/supportable. This may be in part to some alternate
hardware configurations that slipped into this pile of hosts that
caused us to mis-report things to Dell support at first. But even
after correcting the problem report we're being told this isn't
supportable. It seems strange to me that we can't use a SAS
controller as a simple SAS controller for individual disks, so I'd
like a reality check to ensure we're not doing something
out-in-left-field.

Thanks!
