Was having freeze issue with a poweredge 2850 after trying everything I could think of gave up on it. Some motherboard issue as it would freeze anywhere.
I had a spare 2850 chassis & took the complete front drive carriage & drives, side bar from the original freezing server & added to the spare chassis. I cleared nvram & booted up setting the bios to raid etc. Then rebooted. It boots fine with no errors just very very painfully slow. Took at least 20 minutes to boot, a good 10-15 minutes to load gnome desktop. Normally on previous server very fast. The drives seem odd, the activity lights on the top will be a dull/gim green for good 30 seconds then flash bright & keep repeating. I believe they are only getting read during the flashes & for some reason waiting during the dim green. Any input would be very much appreciated. Would really like to get some sleep some day!
