Dell - Internal Use - Confidential

Hello Sullivan,

Debian 9 (Community) support could be from October 2018 OMSA release.

Thanks
Vivek

Debian 8 support will end on June, 6th 2018.
Debian 9 has been released on June, 17th 2017.
Dell initially announced OMSA support for December 2017.
Dell now announces tentative OMSA support for Debian 9 for October 2018.
Despite many inquiries on this mailing list, Dell answers on the matter were very sparse and inaccurate.

So based upon that, there will not be any working OMSA for any supported Debian release from June 2018 to October 2018, at the very least.
Meanwhile, one must use hacks to get Debian 8 OMSA running on Debian 9.

Given Dell is already running 4 month behind the initially announced schedule, which was already 6 months after Debian 9 release, I'm not sure Dell is serious about Debian, which represents a quite significant share of Linux deployments.

My conclusion would be that anyone relying on Debian should stay away from Dell and find another hardware supplier. Dell hardware is only suitable to run RHEL or clones.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but this is my feeling at the moment.

Regards,
Xavier
