Hi Dell,

Would it be possible to contribute the modifications made by Dell to
the ipmitool project to support latest generations of server (via the
delloem sub-command) upstream?

Right now, the only way I'm aware of to get support for 14G servers is
to get an ISO from the Dell support web site, extract an RPM out of
it, and then get a binary version of ipmitool out of that RPM. This is
cumbersome and impractical. And by the way, that version is
1.8.14.dell50, while most distributions ship 1.8.18, so it's not even
reasonable to override the stock distro version with Dell's, as 1.8.14
dates from 2014...

I think it would benefit everybody, including Dell, to contribute
those patches upstream, so they could be integrated in every single
Linux distribution. And this could be a good starting point to get
things going: https://github.com/ipmitool/ipmitool/issues/18

It has already been discussed numerous places, to apparently no
effect, so it would be great if action could be taken for real.

We even opened a "Dell EMC Enterprise Support Case" in June 2018 (case
# 967863792), which has been closed without any answer...

Thanks!
