[EXTERNAL EMAIL] You should be able to use any of the Windows .exe files via the method you have linked. If that fails, I'd try booting a live version of Linux (pick a Dell supported version for your platform) from USB/CD and install the BIOS update using the Linux .bin file. The life cycle controller update check may also work (not sure if dell has finally killed off the 11g platform or not).

So I want to apply the most recent firmware/bios patch

https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=0f4yy&oscode=ws8r2&productcode=poweredge-r710

https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/sln292363/update-dell-poweredge-servers-firmware-remotely-using-the-idrac?lang=en#idrac78
implies I can do that from the iDrac, but none of the images seem to
be iDRAC-friendly. Does that mean I need to instan an OS first?
