Hi there,

We are running multiple PE2950 servers across two independent MD3000i's (Both
on the latest Gen 2 Firmware, 07.35.22.61) - 3 x PE2950's connected to one
MD3000i and another 3 x PE2950's connected to another MD3000i (the
configuration of each cluster is best outlined by
http://www.delltechcenter.com/page/VMware+ESX+4.0+and+PowerVault+MD3000i) .
These servers are running ESX 4.0 Build 175625.

I am seeing the attached error in the /var/log/vmkernel log on each of the ESX
servers (across both clusters):

Aug 17 12:59:28 esx vmkernel: 4:02:19:17.233 cpu7:4103)NMP:
nmp_CompleteCommandForPath: Command 0x12 (0x4100020d4ac0) to NMP device
"mpx.vmhba32:C0:T0:L0" failed on physical path
"vmhba32:C0:T0:L0" H:0x0 D:0x2 P:0x0 Valid sense data: 0x5 0x24 0x0.

I am able to force these errors to occur when I manually force a rescan the
iSCSI targets from the ESX VC-Client, but these errors also occur every so
often. I would like to check if these errors are a problem. At present our
ESX cluster appears to be running correctly, however, I would like to check
these problems, and check if anyone with a similar setup has these problems.

I've investigated the problem and found the following VMWare Knowledge base
article:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=289902

But am unable to correctly decipher the Sense Data correctly, and it's not
exactly giving much information as to if the problem is normal or not.

If anyone has any ideas, your help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Gene Tang
