        My /etc/options missed the ipcp-accept-local and remote
options, which made the connection fail. It worked fine now.
        I wonder if, using demand dialing, you can voluntarily
make pppd disconnect (as if it were idle) on request (i.e.
via a signal or pppd command). Do you necessarily have
to let it idle out for it do hang up the modem?
