how do you compile your ppp to kernal as a module or what ?
if you do, put this in your /etc/rc.d/rc.local
                            /sbin/depmod -a 
then before you dial your isp do this too
login as big guy root
/usr/sbin/pppd if you see garbage cahr@#T$%#%Q#$%#$ you OK.
