The magic bullet for ppp on 2.1.1xx kernels is indeed ppp
version 2.3.5. It can be obtained from:
ftp://cs.anu.edu.au/pub/software/ppp/
It comes in a nice .tgz distribution so that you can
actually put it where you want it and find it after
you install it!
I did have to manually patch in typedefs for __u32,
__u16, and __u8 in the ppp_defs.h file (maybe the
underlying distribution RedHat 5.1 necessitated this??).
At any rate it now works fine. Thanks to Clifford Kite.
