tanx todor and all,
this is my story:
i connect to my ISP through pppd (turn on minicom, ctrl+alt-a/j, pppd). then
my ISP give me a dynamic IP address from a vague subnet host; now this host
works out as a gateway for me.
the point: i want get into my college shell account and, from there, open a
telnet session which points out to my linux box.
but i can't do it...
reading the chapter "Routing Through a PPP Link" from NAG, i discovered
that is possible do the reverse: "turn my linux box into a gateway through
a proxyarp option. this will install a proxy ARP entry for my linux box and
will automatically make it accessible from all hosts". my linux then will
be a peer of that gateway, i mean, will be a sub-etha of that gateway.
the ip-up command fits for this? or do i have just to turn gate? or do i
have to tweak the default route in the route table?
anybody knows if it is fable or not? i mean...
telnet from a third party to my linux box?
tanx in advance,
