slattach is short for SLIP attach. On many OS's I know it is used to setup
SLIP connections. Usually it is not as clever as chat and does not do any
handshaking. Basically, it makes the serial line go to SLIP mode. And just
that.

Under linux, this is usually done by dip (which is more like chat than
slattach). Still, someone provided an slattach (maybe useful for leased
lines).

There is no relation between slattach and ppp.
