Thanks to all who responded.
Late friday afternoon I discovered the problem but did not repost to the
list. NT requested it's own address and DNS & WINS server addresses. PPPD was
reporting the primary servers that were configured and an address of 0.0.0.0 for
the nonexistant secondary servers. NT was not satisfied with this and continued
to insist that secondary servers be provided. Configuring secondary DNS & WINS
servers solved the problem immediately.
NT is the only OS with a protocol stack that I have come across that
requires this. Are there any others that you are aware of?
