I have an ISDN modem called the 3ComImpact IQ, and it works beautifully
under PPP 2.2.x. But no matter what I do, I can't get the darn thing to
work with PPP 2.3.5. (I need the 2.3.5 version because it's required for
the Linux 2.2.x kernels.) At first, I was having problems with the
compression modules not being found, but I fixed them by editing
/etc/conf.modules, and now my syslog is telling me that the modem just
hangs up after making a connection. The ppp0 channel won't even come up.
I've tried this on both the 2.0.36 and 2.2.1 kernels.

I've finally decided that there must be some sort of incompatibility
between the 3ComImpact and PPP 2.3.5. Maybe I just need to change my
init string or something. Has anyone here gotten their 3ComImpact to
work with PPP 2.3.5? If so, I'd really appreciate it if you could send
me your /etc/ppp/options and /etc/ppp/chat.scr files, or at least give
me a hint on how to get the modem to play with PPP 2.3.5. Thanks,

Trevor
