External USR Sportster Flash doesn't support leased line mode. (&L1 command
is not supported).
If you're fan of USRobotics modems you can use USR Courier V.everything.
It supports up to 33600 bps in asynchronous leased line mode and up to 19200
bps synchronous leased line mode (for this case you should have a
synchrounous board or even better use a hardware router).
If you want to use higher class modems a good choice are RAD products, but
they're much more expensive.

The configuration commands you can use to setup the leased line mode for USR
Courier V.everything (via minicom for instance) are:
&F0
&A3&D2&B1&H0&G0&K3&M4&L1&W
Depending on signalization of the local telecommunication company you might
have to change some of them.
Put one modem in autoanswer mode (DIP5) and the ppp correponing computer
with passive option set.
For more information look at serial-HOTO, ppp-HOWTO and leased-line-HOWTO.
Good luck.
