To any of you out there who have an ISDN modem and can't figure out why
you can't get it to work after upgrading from PPP 2.2.x to PPP 2.3.5,
try this:
Open your /etc/ppp/options file and change "crtscts" to "xonxoff".
After a week of pulling my hair out, that one little change was all I
needed to get my 3ComImpact working under PPP 2.3.5.
Thanks to Clifford Kite for casually mentioning this fix on the
linux-ppp list. Apparently, it works equally well on the 3ComImpact as
it does on the Zyxel.
While this works for some people (both ISDN and POTS modems), it
doesn't always. In my case, not initializing the port with setserial
fixed it. I've got a hunch there is a change to the default
configuration of serial ports in the new kernel, which is causing a
host of problems with programs that use the serial ports.
