- Change the chat command-line to use /dev/ttyS2 instead of cua2.
- Seems like you are using options for an older version of pppd (options
with the infamous +/- in the name): upgrade to 2.3.5, and use only
options mentioned in the (updated) man page.

upgrade to 2.3.5 -- solves a few bugs that appeared in the 2.3 series...
For reference, these are the ONLY options that I use on the command-line
with 2.3.5 (works just fine):
pppd ttyS2 modem asyncmap 0 crtscts defaultroute
