Hello,

I downloaded Slackware Linux (latest version) off the Internet a few months ago. I
installed it fine but the first thing I need and want is PPP. I have ran into a wall
with this. I spent a great deal of time with it then but gave up. Now I want to get
it figured out so I can move on in setting up my linux.

Basically the distribution came with PPP already installed. I did have to re-compile
my kernel though. That was new for me and I re-compiled numerous times trying to
figure out my problem. I tried it using modules and without. No luck.

Whenever I try to run PPP, I get the "Kernel doesn't support message". However, here
is output from my /var/log/messages file:

Sep 4 23:03:13 bill kernel: PPP: version 2.2.0 (dynamic channel allocation)
Sep 4 23:03:13 bill kernel: PPP Dynamic channel allocation code copyright 1995
Caldera, Inc.
Sep 4 23:03:13 bill kernel: PPP line discipline registered.

So the kernel does support it, or at least it should. Here is some data from my PPP
debug file:

Sep 4 23:33:53 dial004 insmod: unregister_8022_client undefined
Sep 4 23:33:53 dial004 insmod: call_out_firewall undefined

Sep 4 23:33:53 dial004 insmod: Loading failed! The module symbols (from linux-2.0.30)
don't match your linux-2.0.30

Can anyone point me in the right direction to troubleshoot this problem? I don't know
where to go with this "Loading failed" message in dealing with the matching of
modules??? I downloaded the entire package and would assume all this stuff should be
right. I know, stupid to assume anything.

My PPP version is 2.2.0, kernel is 2.0.30. I will deeply appreciate any suggestions,
and yes I have looked at some FAQS. :-)

Bill anxious to get on the net with linux instead of Microshaft.
Thanks
