Hi PPP people,

My patch for SIOCSIFNAME went into 2.1.120, to my surprise. This
allows changing of an interface name, which is extremely useful for
firewalling (you can filter packets by interface name) and
readability.

I am working on a patch for pppd (if you change the interface name
externally, pppd gets upset; no surprise here) which should allow
either an explicit name (say "interface-name ppp-bigcorp") or a name
based on the authenticated user (say "interface-auto-name").

What do the powers that be think of the idea? Any comments on my
choice of option names? Is it the kind of stupid hack that's never
going to make the mainstream pppd sources?

Thanks for your time,
Rusty.
