Hello, everyone. Here's my problem: Essentially, pppd has decided it has
no kernel support. Now, let me give you some background:
I first noticed a problem when I was using wvdial. I was fetching
mail, and it suddenly quit. I ddin't know what happened, so I
reconnected. I had the same problem, and nothing would transfer! No
telnet, WW3, nothing. So, I tried kppp, and it worked for everything
except fetching mail, which still hung on the first mesage. Well, for
some reason, I thought that messing with my named would help. So, I
assigned some DNS servers to it, and ran it. Nothing changed. So, I went
off to class.
Upon my return, I discovered that kppp claimed that I had no ppp
support! I was crushed! I hadn't touched a thing aside from the named
settings, which I quickly restored to the defaults. I hadn't a clue what
to do. This was with SuSE 5.2 (2.0.33)
So, since I had been planning to try an install of RH 5.1. I had
used 5.1 in the past, so setup was easy. When I tried to connect usng
usernet, it claimed that I had no ppp support in the kernel also! This
has totally freaked me out. What should I test? Where should I look?
Honestly, the SuSE setup was running perfectly well previously, and the RH
installation was running on the default kernel, which had ppp support as a
module. Please advise. Thanks in advance...

                                                -Chris
