After a long journey which I will not go into here, I have run into a rather basic (and major) problem. After installing ppp-2.3.5 and having it working, I tried to reconfigure under SuSE 5.2. Needless to say, ppp no longer works. As it's coming up, I get the following in the log file: Sep 16 21:49:01 castle pppd[863]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0 Sep 16 21:49:07 castle pppd[863]: Remote message: Sep 16 21:49:07 castle modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-21 Sep 16 21:49:07 castle modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-26 Sep 16 21:49:07 castle modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-24 Sep 16 21:49:08 castle modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-21 Sep 16 21:49:08 castle modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-26 Sep 16 21:49:08 castle modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-24 Sep 16 21:49:08 castle pppd[863]: local IP address 205.177.201.63 Sep 16 21:49:08 castle pppd[863]: remote IP address 204.215.84.3 Sep 16 21:49:50 castle pppd[863]: Terminating on signal 2. Sep 16 21:51:08 castle kernel: PPP: ppp line discipline successfully unregistered I had run kernel level 'make modules' and 'make modules_install'. Do I need to re-make the files in the ppp-specific source tree to have them appear? Or, what else did I do wrong?
