Hello,
We don't have any problem in connecting to our ISP using ISDN
in Slackware Linux 2.0.27. But when we try to connect our ISP on a
different system in Redhat 5.1 (2.0.35), using pppd 2.3.3 the connection
established with proper routing and IP address also assigned. We have PAP
autentication with the /etc/ppp/pap-secrets file. But although
ifconfig/route look OK, no network commands like ping, telnet work. Also,
after few minutes the connection goes down with out showing any error
messages in log file, even after enabling debug mode. But some error
messages were displayed on the console continuously. The complete message
was like this:
Oct 8 19:02:31 ops_pc1 pppd[1075]: pppd 2.3.3 started by root, uid 0
Oct 8 19:02:31 ops_pc1 pppd[1075]: Removed stale lock on cua1 (pid 1075)
Oct 8 19:02:31 ops_pc1 pppd[1075]: Using interface ppp0
Oct 8 19:02:31 ops_pc1 pppd[1075]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/cua1
Oct 8 19:02:35 ops_pc1 pppd[1075]: Remote message:
Oct 8 19:02:35 ops_pc1 pppd[1075]: local IP address xxx.xx.xx.xx
Oct 8 19:02:35 ops_pc1 pppd[1075]: remote IP address yyy.yy.yy.yy
Oct 8 19:03:41 ops_pc1 pppd[1075]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
Oct 8 19:03:41 ops_pc1 pppd[1075]: Modem hangup
Oct 8 19:03:41 ops_pc1 pppd[1075]: Connection terminated.
Oct 8 19:03:41 ops_pc1 pppd[1075]: Exit.
Also, in ifconfig the RX part of ppp0 shows all packets as dropped.
I don't have any idea why this was happening. So, kindly send your
recommendations and suggestins on this.
Is there anything specific to RHL?
Thanx for help.
PS: This dialup uses the second DTE of the TA, which is exactly what is
working perfectly in Slackware.
-Sharan.
