(Also posted to linux-serial, because I'm not exactly sure where the
problem lies.)
I have a Hayes Accura 56K modem. (K56Flex, rockwell chipset) I've been
having problems with it connecting at anything higher than 28.8 or so.
What happens is that I dial my provider (who supports the K56Flex), the
modem dials, handshakes, and connects. It then usually reports "CONNECT
40000", followed by "PROTOCOL: NONE". After that, pppd takes over, but is
apparently unable to make sense of what it's getting. The only time I can
connect with it is when I see a "CONNECT 28800" (or less) followed by
"PROTOCOL: LAP-M".
Is this a problem with the modem, my serial connection, or my ppp setup?
I'd like to have the modem connecting at the best speed it can, but I'll
take just being able to tell it to restrict itself to speeds that will
work. (I have checked the PPP ad Serial HOWTOs, as well as visiting
Hayes' and Rockwell's websites, and haven't found anything. The modem
appears to work properly in a Win95 machine.)
Oh, yes. Debian 2.0, kernel 3.0.35 (compiled with PPP support), pppd
2.3.5.
P.S. Please at least cc: me in e-mails. I'm normally on the linux-ppp
list, but I get unsubscribed recently, and am having difficulty
resubscribing.)
