Hi everyone,

Here is a successful story with pppd running on Linux.

We have a big project which requires a dedicated ppp connection to a remote
site (a few thousand miles away). Initially we tried to set ppp on a Unix
box - it's a "state-of-art" Unix (one of the industry leaders) running on a
high end machine ($200,000). The ppp software was purchased separately. We
spent one whole week trying to setup on that Unix machine and finally got
connected. But the speed was so slow that we were forced to give up
(because of time restrictions). I turned to pppd with Linux. Within a half
day I setup the connection and then recompiled the kernel with
CONFIG_IP_MASQUERADE (and so on) so the Linux was running as a gateway to
the (State-of-Art) Unix machine. Within one day we successfully established
connection. Without it, we had to send our staff (and hardware too) to the
remote site.
