Get ppp-2.3.7 at

ftp://cs.anu.edu.au/pub/software/ppp/

It's the latest, better and doesn't have the problem.  There were nasty
problems related to installation and kernel versioning in 2.3.5 and in
2.3.4 too I think.  The availability of ppp-2.3.7 makes explanations of
these problems in previous versions irrelevant.
