I'm having some problems with PPP under LinuxPPC on an Apple Powerbook

Series laptop.
The ONLY way I can get ppp to work is to use kppp and set the init-delay
to
over 100 (currently 126), which I believe is hundredths of a second.
I've been trying to duplicate this in a chat script, using an initial
reset
string of:
'' ATZ\d\p\p\p
OK ATDT<number>
Every once in a while this works, but mostly it just never comes back
with OK.
does anyone have any suggestions?
