A few months ago I posted a message to this list complaining that when I was downloading a file, it took all packets 10-12 seconds to get from client programs to my gateway. Someone told me to change the MTU and MRU settings, which I did. After some experimentation with how low pppd would get them go, I added the following to my "options" file: mtu 128 mru 128 This allows me to do other things, such as interact with pine over telnet, while downloading a large file. I think this should be put into the HOWTO, since most newbies (like me) are coming over from Windows 9x Dialup Networking, which uses very small packets to allow better online multitasking. Who currently maintains the HOWTO? Alternatively, perhaps the developers should consider significantly lowering the default MTU setting. Advanced users could tweak it, and new users could surf the net comfortably without ever having to know about it. Just my US$0.02. But thanks a lot to the list for helping me get it working! :) -- Mark Ryan Intern Programmer - Reuters Reality Online Inc. 1000 Madison Ave., Norristown, PA 19403 610.650.8600 x8403 "One of these days I'll find that guy Peer and reset his connection." - Unknown - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-ppp" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
