One thing I have been wondering about is just how many different
modem servers or PPP programs support the ppp_deflate protocol.
I have yet to find an ISP around here that actually supports it.
One ISP I had was bellatlantic.net, which they say uses Solaris
for all their servers, and the tech support had told me that
BellAtlantic "only supports the standard compression protocols
for Solaris." The ISP I have now is ABSnet, and AFAIK their
modem servers aren't doing any CCP negotiation either. I have
"deflate 15,15" set in my pppd peers/ config file for each ISP.
I believe ABSnet uses Livingston hardware. Would anyone with
expertise in this topic be able to clarify?
