The first is a continuation of one I posted the other day regarding "can't
locate modules"... Thanks to a response from Jean-Luc ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), I
was able to clean up a couple of the errors. However, two remain...

a. How should char-major-5 be aliased? (I'm using RH 6.0 for my base system.)

b. I've aliased ppp-compress-26 to slhc, however when I 'make modules_install',
this module is not being recompiled. Is there some kernel selction that I should
have turned on?

The other problem is one that puzzles me greatly and I'm not sure which group to
address. I have a system that is connected through either an ethernet connection
or through dial-in ddd. When I connect through the ethernet, all services
(telnet and ftp) seem to be fully operational. However, when I connect through
the dial-in ppp, I can only use telnet. When I attempt to use ftp, I get the
connected message, but no ftp login prompt. After it times out, the message
"ftpd[13723]: FTP session closed" appears in /var/log/messages.

I have checked out what I know about inetd.conf, services, ftpaccess, etc. byt
comparing them to a good working copy of the system. Can someone suggest other
points that I can check out? Although I'd like to be able to 'fix' the problem,
I would like to be able to understand what is happening and why.

Thanks for your help,
Dave
