I'm getting the following PPP error (using pppd version 2.3 patch level 5) with Linux version 2.2.7 (SuSE 6.1). I just recently recompiled my kernel out of necessity and now I get the following error when trying to establish a dialup connection with pppd. ioctl(PPPIOCGUNIT) permission denied(1) I have a dual processor pentium pro and when I compile dual processor support into the kernel I get the above error when I try to dialout. If i remove the dual support from the kernel compile it works well. Now I'm logged in as root, and I have set the pppd permissions as I've seen they should be. I also compiled ppp support into the kernel. One thing that seems strange is that when I boot up I get messages about PPP being loaded which I dont remember seeing in my boot ups before I recompiled the kernel. Any help is greatly appreciated.
