The idea of using a script to check the "PPP PID" works fine. I have used
this in the past. Just put an entry in the root crontab file to check for
the PID every 10 minutes or so, and redial the connection if needed. I have
such a script lying around here somewhere. Let me know if you need it.
The real problem is the fact that the link stops working but does NOT
terminate. I had this same problem and it was driving me nuts. This seems
to be a random event. I have seen the link run for anywhere between 1 hour
and 6 days before it hangs. There is an option to send a link-verification
packet periodically and if you do not get a response, terminate the
connection.
By the way: If you are using linuxconf, you can select an option to restart
a dead link.
Does anyone know what is causing these problems? I am now installing kernel
2.2.13 and ppp-2.3.11 Can anyone tell me if this problem still occurs with
this combination?
