Currently it seems that with the idle option pppd includes echo requests
from the peer and it's own echo replies when checking link activity. This
means that if the peer echo request interval is less than the idle option
time then the purpose of the idle option is defeated. (I've not had this
problem but it is implied in at least some posts about the failure of the
idle option to work as expected.)
It appears to me that it would be a good thing if a feature was added to
pppd that causes it to exclude any peer echo request and pppd echo reply
when checking link activity.
