I currently trying to get pppd v2.2 to provide a connection to
the internet with kernel version 2.2.14 and the pppd v2.2
package which I downloaded and compiled. The system is a
relatively new Supermicro S2DGR which uses the Diamond
Suprasonic II dual modem. I've not tried to use serial line
equalization to use both modems, but I have each modem
connected to a phone line, and I successfully dial either of the
modems(using seyon) and log in to my ISP and get the usual
PPP local host and remote host message, then the strange
characters after. I also have another machine running an
older version of the kernel and ppp which works just fine.

I tried exiting seyon after logging in and starting pppd using
the instructions in what I think is the latest PPP-HowTo but
after less than a minute pppd exits and a message is written to
syslog which ends in "Network is down" I also tried to use the
"chat -f connectscript.chat" string in the pppd command line,
but with the same result.

I can get the exact pppd command line and exact contents of
the chat script and syslog error message when I get home
tonight, but from what I described so far is there an obvious
error and fix with how I'm trying to use chat and pppd?

Thanks in advance!
