Dear Joachim: Thank you! I have successful started a AutoPPP connection as the way you tell me. The foolish mistake is I use the wrong path in the inittab. So before I corrected it, linux just invoke the default mgetty which comes from the package when I call in. Thank you. Now I have two other questions. The first one is my mgetty try to access my modem every hour to make sure wether the modem still alive. And record the result in log_mg.ttyS0. Does this a characteristic of mgetty or it is an option which I can turn it of. The second question is that when I try to start up a direct cable connection from another Win95 machine near the linux box, My linux box alway complain " Too rapid to response" and shut down my ttyS1 5 minutes. (note: I connect my modem in ttyS0 and it can work normally whether I start ttyS1 to receive a direct connection on ttyS1). The log file of ttyS1 record the communication with win95 below. Could please tell whats wrong I make? -- 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 mgetty: official release 1.0.0 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 check for lockfiles 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 locking the line 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 can't get group 'modem': No such file or directory 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 tio_get_rs232_lines: TIOCMGET failed: Input/output error 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 cannot turn off soft carrier: Input/output error 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 tcgetattr failed: Input/output error 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 cannot get TIO: Input/output error 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 mg_init_device failed, trying again 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 tio_get_rs232_lines: TIOCMGET failed: Input/output error 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 cannot turn off soft carrier: Input/output error 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 tcgetattr failed: Input/output error 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 cannot get TIO: Input/output error 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 mg_init_device failed, exiting: Input/output error 03/01 18:00:30 yS1 cannot get terminal line dev=ttyS1, exiting: Input/output error Thank you again and Best Kindly regards Max Zhang ===== Max Zhang Electrical Engineer Greater China Personal Communications Sector R&D Center Beijing Breach Direct Line 86-10-65642336 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
