I suggest:
- put your ppp config files for the 2 different isps in /etc/ppp/peers/,
  say isp1, isp2
- put in /etc/ppp/pap-secrets:
username isp1 password

- put in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets
username isp2 password

- to connect to isp1, use pppd call isp1

This way you have different configs for the 2 isps, so you can also set
chap and pap right.
