Here are some things to check/try:
Flow control, use the pppd option crtscts and make sure the modem is
configured for RTS/CST flow control
Changing/adding the pppd asyncmap option to "asyncmap a0000"
Adding the pppd novj option.
Removing the pppd option "escape FF" if it is present.
Reducing the pppd speed option to 57600.
None of the above are guaranteed to fix the problem. If they all fail then
the next step would seem be to post exact copies of the chat and PPP link
negotiation messages in your logs that were generated when connecting using
the chat -v and the pppd debug options.
