I'm having difficulty setting up a dial-in PPP server using Redhat 6.0. I'm
dialing into my linux box from a Win95 PC. I have to use the Win95 DUN
option "bring up a terminal after dialing" or something like that. Then I
get a bunch of junk followed by the standard login prompt. When I login and
ppp starts, I hit F7 to continue. The connection dialog box minimizes.
It just so happens that the Linux box is on the same LAN as my Win95 box.
192.168.11.1 Linux eth0 address
192.168.11.3 Win95 NIC address
/etc/ppp/options contains the the following (not all is included here)
192.168.12.1:192.168.13.1
When I look at the /var/log/messages file, I see that the local ip address
that pppd got was the eth0 (192.168.11.1) address, not 192.168.12.1 as
specified in the /etc/ppp/options file. Is this related to why I am having
trouble using AutoPPP?
I feel like I am somewhat running in circles between reading mgetty, dial-in
server setup, and ppp documentation. All that to say, I appreciate your
comments.
