I'd guess that you got the very first 2.4.0b3 source package from
linuxcare.com.au. Paul Mackerras quickly replaced it with a second
one that had the "tty.c" source file that was omitted from the first.
The pppd built from the second 2.4.0b3 package works without complaint
after adding the line he suggests above.
