|WvDial: Hmm... a prompt. Sending "ppp".
|WvDial: ppp
|WvDial: Entering PPP Mode.
|WvDial: IP address is 4.4.171.197
|WvDial: MTU is 1524.
|WvDial: Looks like a welcome message.
|pppd[896]: Serial connection established.
|pppd[896]: Couldn't set tty to PPP discipline: Invalid argument
|ppd[896]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
|pppd[896]: Exit.
Just guessing, there is something wrong with the device file, it's
configuration, or the way it is accessed. I run kernel version 2.2.16 and
pppd 2.4.0 without any problem. You are pretty much on your own if you
run a 2.3.x+ kernel, or sync PPP.
Post the wvdial/pppd scripts and whatever serves as chat scripts for
wvdial, the pppd options, and exact copies of chat and pppd log messages
with the options -v and debug respectively. Including timestamps.
If you want an alternative to wvdial and use PAP or CHAP authentication
rather than login/password then you can try the pppd script in the file
ppp-secrets.gz at http://www.inetport.com/~kite/ . Frontends such as
wvdial just make things harder to debug.
