Hi, this is my problem:
I connect easily to my ISPs (I have two), but something weird happened in
recent days.
I use Mandrake 7.1, and the connection works out-of-the-box. I use PAP and
everything goes fine.
However, some days ago (two weeks maybe), I get some new hardware (a TV
card), and I have to recompile my kernel (of course, the ppp module as
well). Everything is fine: I'm still can connect and all services are ok.
But the "balance" of the connection is extrange. The velocity is the same
as always, but before I recompile my kernel, the downloads was "constants",
and now are very "unconstants" (that word exists?)
Graphically, I use kppp to connect, and the "Kppp Statistics" window shows
almost a straight line (same with the Network Load applet from GNOME),
something like
----_---_-------_------------_
Now, the transmission drops without reason, and the line now looks like
_--_-\ /----_--_--\ /---_---_

\ / \ /
------- ---------
It's not only a esthetic matter, obviously the general velocity has dropped
(about 50% of the original).
I don't think that my modem is the problem, and it happens with my two
ISPs. Also, I can connect with other tools (dip, rp3, gnome-ppp and usind
pppd directly), and it's the same thing.
I downloaded ppp-2.4.0b4 and compiled, thinking that the kernel change may
caused the problem, but I can't compile the module included (the make
kernel rule is commented and there is no Makefile in the modules dir), and
changing pppd not helped (things are the same).
Any sugestions?
