Sorry guys. I got this impression from reading the FAQ:

The software RAID has a set of software tools, config files, and
drivers that are all linux specific.
I would think that Hardware RAID isn't really a function of anything
in the Linux kernel other than the individual host adapter driver.
The hardware RAID controller makes the devices look like a single SCSI
disk to the kernel.
