Hello,

I've got an SMP system with 2 9G drives in RAID1 config. The disk is near
full and I've had a problem with it deadlocking when a gunzip process fills the
disk, locking up anything touching one of the affected directories, etc. I've
got hung HTTP and LS processes with the gunzip running wild (I can't kill -9
the gunzip process, it won't die but it sure is eating up CPU). It won't
shutdown either.

When I reset and reboot, the system wants to resync the array and fsck the
partition. Just as the fsck is finishing up, the system deadlocks. Booting
the system with init=/bin/bash, letting the resync finish then starting the
fsck and rebooting brings the system up. There are screen messages at the end
of the fsck complaining about insufficient memory for raid and retrying. They
seem to come and go without incident though.

   The drives are:

   /dev/sda1: 16M mounts as /boot0
   /dev/sda2: RAID1 partition 1
   /dev/sda3: 64M swap partition 1

   /dev/sdb1: 16M mounts as /boot1
   /dev/sdb2: RAID1 partition 2
   /dev/sdb3: 64M swap partition 2

Anybody got a suggestion or a patch ?

   Michael
