Don't use older versions of dump! There are serious restore problems
with older versions.
Mine says dump 0.4b19 and has no problems with /dev/md0

I am using Amanda with tar for all filesystems. This has been very reliable
and with amrecover you can do partial restores quite nicely. Amanda
also takes care of using GNUtar new incremental format to provide
reliable incremental backups.
