I'll post the same thing to this list that I sent to the original poster --
seems many people aren't aware of the limitation
on how many devices you can put on an ultra-wide and the impact on max cable
length:

If five devices are used (four devices and your host adapter), then the
maximum bus length is 1.5 meters (five feet!).
Since you have 7 devices (6+adaptor) -- using 6 inches minimum between --
plus terminator on both ends for 9 connections
puts you at 8x6=48 inches or 1.2 meters -- and I'll bet you have a one meter
cable to your externals and probably some spare connectors to boot -- so
you've exceeded the spec.

If you want to max these out you'll need another controller.
