Worse, there are a lot of buggy Adaptec/DPT RAID drivers floating about,
some even from Adaptec's web site.  I have two different dpt_i2o drivers
here, each labelled version 1.14.  Only the one that appears older (it
has more references to DPT in it) works correctly.  Once you get one
working, _hang onto the code_!
