i've hotswpped ide drives but...different kind of hot swapp..
( w/ rh-7.1 ( root raid1 ) )
- power off...add/remove the ide disks...
- power up and let the software do its thing...
- removing/adding either of hda1 or hdb1 worked...
( at least it booted in degraded mode with one drive missing
( and resync when the fresh disk was added
have fun raiding
