We are looking to impliment hardware RAID5 and wanted some good advice
on which controller is the best to use.
Speed and reliability are important factors to us. We have been using a
DPT raid controller with 64MB of RAM on it for over a year under Linux,
but I have not been all that impressed with its speed, and its lack of
supporting software (other than its drivers) is also an issue, one I
might add that DPT is not commenting on.
I have been using the ADAC (AMI MegaRAID) card under NT for quite some
time and and very impressed with its speed, (i960 based card), it holds 128MB
of ram and is a well supported card. Now I hear they have support for
Linux and they were going to have a Linux based configuration tool set.
However someone posted a message to the group that it was very slow
under linux and suggested a Vortex or ?? controller. Is there a list
somewhere of RAID cards that have Linux support and maybe some benchmark
tests...?
Anyway, I need some input from some of you to make a good decision and
would appreciate it a great deal.
Thanks to all.

We have no government armed with power capable of contending
with human passions unbridled by morality and religion.
Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the
strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through
a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and
religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the
government of any other.
