I've done all the reading and all the research I can find (I think!!) But things aren't real clear to me on some things. This will be the first Raid setup I've done so if anything here sounds really stupid forgive me. I've read up on Software Raids which have certain advantages and Hardware raids with have some namely performance. We purchased a Gateway system 512M mem, ALR Raid card, 7 - 9gSCSIs.. and the gentleman that was gonna do this is now gone so its left up to me. I'm not a total linux newbie I know my way around but I need a little guidence. My questions are this. 1. I've found a lot of setups for software and root-raid, but really nothing for hardware Raids. Where can I find this? 2. The answer to #1 may answer #2, but this raid card has 2 channels on it, how will that affect anything? I guess there is a load sharing thing that can happen with it, but will that be of any use to me using Linux and following the setup below?? 3. This machine will be running Linux (of course!!)(Leaning towards Redhat 5.x) This machine will be used for EMAIL, an intrAnet web server of sorts, and primary DNS for our school. I don't look for more than 1000 accounts (very low traffic!!) on this machine. Mainly staff/facualty and what few students are allowed to have them. My question is this... what suggestions are out there for how to break this creature up into Raid. Raid 5 is what I would pick to do unless someone has a suggestion for me otherwise. I was thinking 5M of space per account for email and file storage so maybe setting 1 9gig drive away for /home??? Any info or helping hand would be much appreciated on this... I'm kinda overwhelmed right now, and trying to get a grasp on everything. I understand this isn't for rookies, but we were all there once.. Help!! ;) Thanks for everything in advance Mike
