Couple of things here. The Root Raid HOWTO has not been updated to
reflect recent major changes in the way raid operates. The code is
still alpha-ish so I've not put it up on my production sites or
re-written the HOWTO to reflect the changes.
Secondly, the RedHat Linux implementation does not have an easy way
to build a root partition independent of a running system in it's
setup scripts. You must modify the scripts to chroot to the raid
array if you want to set things up as described in the HOWTO. Either
that, or use a distribution such as Slackware that does it for you.
